ABOUT US
In the fall of 2022, a group of local community members, farmers, and Urban Oasis Project collaborated to apply for a Department of Agriculture grant. The grant was intended to address long-standing farm issues by providing underserved farmers with increased access to markets for selling, land for cultivating, and capital for investments. The National Young Farmer Coalition assisted this team in finding a grant writer, and together we submitted a proposal for The Commons.
This summer, we found out …. WE WON! We are thrilled to announce that our project has been selected by the USDA for funding!
Over the next five years, our plan is to acquire land and establish an agricultural center. This center, called The Commons, will provide long-term land leasing options, shared infrastructure, as well as business and agricultural training to support the growth of the local farming community. With this support, we will be able to begin the land acquisition process!

Our Mission
Moving Farmers from Surviving to Thriving in Miami-Dade County
The Commons aims to increase access to land and capital for underserved farmers in Miami-Dade County by creating an agricultural center that provides long-term land lease options, shared infrastructure, and business and agricultural training. Our model creates a forever farm that takes land speculation of the equation for future farmers.
